In January of 2017 I got my son a hamster to avoid getting him a bird. I don’t have anything against birds, I just don’t want one to live in my house for the next 30 years. Seriously, birds have a surprisingly long lifespan that I had no idea about until I googled it. We went to the pet store and discussed how cute and fluffy the littler hamsters were, and omg look at him on the wheel! I bet he’s so soft! Look how cute he is when he eats! It was an easy sell, to be honest....

Y’all, we adopted the most adorable bundle of happiness and floof at the end of last week. My son has wanted his own dog for AGES. Honestly, I wasn’t down for being responsible for another living thing, gnomesayin’? So I did what any excellent parent would do, I came up with a way to delay the inevitable for as long as possible.
Enter, The Dog Chart.
My son had to take responsibility for all of our pets until I decided he was responsible enough...

I have a treat of a story for you today, about the time my son’s hamster Shawshanked out of his cage and had free reign over our house for 2-6 days and somehow managed to go undiscovered (read: uneaten) by any of the other much larger animals that live here.
My son has a fluffy long-haired hamster, appropriately named Mr. Furball, or Furbies for short. He lives in a hamster mansion – it has 3 levels, 2 wheels, 2 huts for him to sleep in, tubes going...
